Valene Kane is an actress from Newry, Northern Ireland, known for playing the lead role in The Fading Light',[1] winner of Best Irish Film at the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival 2010[2]

Early life

A former pupil of Sacred Heart Grammar School, Newry, Kane also attended the Annmarie Morgan School of Dance.

Career

Kane was cast in the film after being spotted on YouTube by the director, Ivan Kavanagh[3] and was chosen partly for her successful experience improvising in the short film, July[4]

Still Early, a short, directed by Ger Leonard in she starred opposite Ben Peel (Hunger), premiered at the Galway Film Festival July 2011.

In 2011, Kane will appear in the thriller War Games: At the End of the Day directed by Cosimo Alema,[5] which Premieres in Rome July 2011.

In April 2011, Kane starred opposite Nichola Burley and Martin McCann in Jump.

Theatre

In Summer 2011, Valene plays 'The Love' in Punchdrunk's production 'The Black Diamond'[6] which sold out "in mere minutes"[7]

Girleen in Martin McDonagh's The Lonesome West in which one reviewer said "Valene Kane gives Girleen a schoolgirl reality, her confident swagger and challenge covering the only genuine feelings for anyone else that the play possesses" [8]
